Adopt-A-Precinct

The Adopt-A-Precinct (AAP) program is a long-standing community partnership, launched in 1998, that gives local organizations a unique way to serve their community, support their mission, and build teamwork. Through this program, organizations “adopt” one or more precincts for an election and provide the poll workers needed to staff those voting locations.

Instead of paying individual poll workers, the Supervisor of Elections issues a single payment to the participating organization, helping fund scholarships, school programs, civic initiatives, and other community-focused projects. Organizations can earn up to $2,125 per adopted precinct, per election, with additional earning opportunities for supplying back-up workers who can be assigned to other precincts as needed.

Many groups have become longtime partners. For example, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. have each supported numerous elections, 19 and 14 respectively, and in 2022 alone earned more than $42,000 by staffing precincts across three countywide elections. Their earnings help fund college scholarships awarded to students each summer.

In total, more than $336,735 was distributed to Adopt-A-Precinct organizations during the 2022 election cycle.
